Your Texas Driver’s License Has a Phone Number on The Back

This was news to me, and trust me, I got my license out and looked. It’s Really there! Something all Texans should know, especially …since this has received very little or no publicity. Your Texas driver’s license has a phone number on the back, just above the Bar code on the lower right side: If you are ever stranded, just call the number on your driver’s License…help is on the way. A state trooper will be sent to make sure all is well. This one is worth passing on especially to all the women you know and anyone who might be on the road alone.

Your Texas driver’s license is more than just a form of identification, it can also serve as a valuable tool in emergency situations. One important feature that many people are not aware of is the phone number located on the back of their license.

This phone number, known as the Emergency Contact Information (ECI) line, is a safety measure put in place by the Texas Department of Public Safety. It allows first responders and law enforcement officers to quickly contact your designated emergency contacts in case of an accident or other emergency.

In order to take advantage of this feature, you must update your ECI information with the Texas DPS. This can be done either online or in person at any driver’s license office. You can add up to three emergency contacts, including their names, phone numbers, and relationship to you.

Having this information readily available can be crucial in times of crisis. In the event that you are involved in an accident or become incapacitated for any reason, first responders will have immediate access to your emergency contacts and can inform them of your situation. This could save valuable time and potentially even save your life.

Furthermore, having accurate ECI information on your driver’s license can also help authorities identify you if you are unable to communicate for any reason. In cases where individuals may not have any form of identification on them, this phone number can provide vital information for identifying next-of-kin or guardians.

It is important to note that this information is only accessible by law enforcement officials during emergencies or when verifying identity during routine traffic stops. It is not publicly available and cannot be accessed for any other purposes.

In addition to updating your ECI information, it is also recommended that you carry an ICE (In Case of Emergency) card with you at all times. This card should include your name, emergency contacts’ names and numbers listed on your driver’s license as well as any pertinent medical information such as allergies or pre-existing conditions.

The phone number located on the back of your Texas driver’s license is a small but powerful tool that can help save your life in an emergency. Take a few minutes to update your ECI information and carry an ICE card with you for added peace of mind.
