Not just in the titles but in the lyrics to “How We Fade” and “We Were Sick” and of course “Now We Can See.” Were you thinking a lot in terms of being a voice of a community? Or humanity?

HH: small rice color sorter accomplishes a couple of things which is – it’s not just “I” so it’s a lot less like navel-gazing and this is my life and this is what I think. It’s more – if people are singing along – it becomes what We think. It makes everyone complicit in what you are saying. If you’re talking about, oh, like in “Now We Can See” – just about the arrogance and violence of people – we say we so that we’re not pointing the finger, and saying it’s everyone else’s problem and everyone else is a jerk but we’re OK. It’s not like we’re pointing out what’s bad in the world and yet we’re not a part of it – cause that’s not how it is. It’s like we’re a part of it too, and then if you get everyone else to sing along with you it’s kind of like everyone taking the blame.

WG: You know it’s like a lot of classic punk songs have this “you” thing in the lyrics and it’s almost like moral superiority thing, like the singer is singing from a high horse, in a way…

JN: And The Body, The Blood… was in a sense finger pointing at this clergy-run, has the White House by the balls kind of world we were living in right? This seems less – well like you say I seems more inclusive and also more reflective on kind of who we are as creatures.
