A ferrous alloy called cast steel has a maximum carbon concentration of about 0.75 percent. Steel castings are solid metal objects made by injecting liquid steel into a mold’s interior. They can be made from many of the same types of carbon and alloy steels as wrought metals. Despite having the same chemical composition as wrought steels, cast steel often has worse mechanical qualities. Cast steel makes up for this drawback by producing complicated shapes in fewer processes.
