For electronics enthusiasts, they need to search a lot of PCB-related content on the Internet to ensure that the soldering project can go smoothly. However, as a search engine, it does not respond quickly like a human, so you have to use professional PCBA terms to search for what you want. In this article, we will introduce some commonly used terms in PCB for your reference.
PCB Terminology
Active Components: Circuit board components can be divided into active components and passive components. Active components represent a component that depends on the direction of current flow. Term Components covered by this term include: transistors, rectifiers, valves, etc.
ALIVH: This term is short for Any Layer Internal Via. In today’s electronic environment, we have to build multi-layer circuit boards to meet electronic needs. Therefore ALIVH is a very practical multi-layer BUM PCB manufacturing technology. PCB manufacturers use PCB solder in layers to make electrical connections between components. At present, PCBA processing plants have three PCB assembly solutions: SMT, DIP, and mixed assembly. ALIVH is a solution used to replace through holes, which is beneficial to the production of high-density PCBA.
Circuit simulation: This is the focus of whether the circuit design is feasible. In order to control the quality of PCBA, in addition to requiring PCBA processing plants to conduct various tests, electronic manufacturers also need to perform circuit simulation. Usually circuit simulation is done by electronics manufacturers themselves, it happens after schematic diagram and PCB design. Circuit simulation is dealing with circuit signals and in this type of circuit the output is non-binary.
Annular ring: This is the key point that designers need to consider when designing PCBs. The designer needs to link it from one side of the hole to the other on a good PCB design tools. The meaning of this term is the pad area left after drilling.
Anti-solder ball: This is a technology used for PCB assembly, usually FS Technology uses it in SMT production line. SMT assembly uses automated high-speed placement machines and printing machines. Although the SPY inspection will be performed after the soldering patch is completed, in order to improve the assembly speed, we still need anti-solder balls. Its purpose is to prevent excessive use of solder paste. This is done by making a stencil on the board and creating openings where solder balls are prone to flow to the openings.
Why Learn PCB Industry Terminology
In all industries, the learning of industry terms is necessary. Next, we will analyze the importance of learning them:
Accelerated learning: For students who are studying the electronics industry, we recommend that you prioritize PCB terminology. When you see a word online or in a book, you may not know what it means. However, you’ll get the hang of it pretty quickly after learning the terminology.
Improve professional quality: Usually a PCB project is a B2B project, that is to say, you need to negotiate with partners on behalf of your company. It will be a plus for you to use more technical PCB terminology when talking. For example, DIP assembly and THT assembly, in fact, this is the same meaning. Although colloquially we prefer to call it DIP assembly, but for commercial activities, it is recommended that you use THT assembly.
