This is the Story So Far Diablo 4 is taking on an edgier, more grounded style of storytelling, and the tone appears to be based on what we’ve observed. It’s an immediate sequel that will take place several decades after the events of Reaper of Souls, the Diablo expansion Reaper of Souls, but Blizzard has stated that it’s focused more on the common people and their struggles in the devastation of Sanctuary and not the supernatural grandeur of demonic gods.
